People ask us if we can get them a price to replace or install a new heater this is a loaded question because there is a lot of variables that go into picking the right heater for the customer. Below are the different questions that you need to answer to determine what’s the best heater for you.
Gas versus Electric
The biggest decision to make is if you want a gas or electric heater if you don’t have any gas going to your property it’s easier to pick the electric heater. Unless you want to go to the large expense of putting a tank in the ground. Gas heaters heat much faster than electric heaters but cost 3 times more to run. If you wanting to heat the pool up very fast just for a day or two like on the weekends the gas heater might be the best one for you. If you are looking to use your heater a lot running it for more than just a day or two the electric heater is much more efficient and will cost much less to run. Most people are not aware that an electric heater can pull heat out of the air almost to the point of freezing. Which is ideal weather conditions in South Florida that’s why the electric heater is much more popular in this area.
What size Heater do I need
That still goes back to how are you planning on using your heater. How fast you want to heat your pool or how many degrees on average are you trying to change 5 or 25. Are you planning on using it for a day or two or on the weekends or for weeks at a time. There is a general size between the different manufacturers for your size of pool but if you’re looking to heat the pool faster than you need to go one size higher. Heaters are measured in BTUs (this stands for British thermal units) Do not try to compare the size of a gas heater with an electric heater using BTU’s. It is like comparing apples and oranges it’s not even close to the same on how they heat water. Gas heaters have about four times more BTU’s than electric heaters but most of that heat is not heating the water it is just going out into the air. An electric heater on the other hand is very efficient and most of the heat transfers to heating the water. Don’t think you’re saving money because the gas heater is less expensive than an electric heater on the initials Installation cost with gas heaters costing three times more to run you get the difference in cost of the heaters back on an electric heater in a short time of use.
Manufacturer and Model
There is a wide variety of manufacturers of models to choose from. My supply houses stocks the most common quality and reliable manufacturers and models. The price can change a lot by heater size, features and options.
Efficient and Quiet
The biggest changes in the different models have been how efficient and how quiet they are. This also makes the price go up. If you’re looking for the most inexpensive heater this is not the option for you. If the pool heater is very close to the pool and you’re able to afford it this is a great option for you. It allows you to talk near the heater and it will save you money on your electric bill.
